    Episode Highlights

    Defining Wisdom

    • Wisdom is understanding our tribal souls despite having modern bodies.

    • You have to understand your nature, your primitive brain, and its natural survival instinct to be aware of your actions and decisions.

    • Wisdom plays a role in our eating habits because it is part of human nature to survive and not starve. Hence, understanding this idea can help us become more intuitive and conscious.

    • Wisdom is the ability to dialogue with yourself.

    • It is also about emotional intelligence, understanding others without allowing it to get the best of you.

    Expressing Feelings Wisely

    • Marissa shares a great saying: “The feeling that cannot find his expression in tears will cause other organs to weep.”

    • It is crucial to allow ourselves to feel our feelings instead of fighting them off and not processing them.

    • All feelings need to be expressed so that you don’t end up erupting or experiencing symptoms that may lead to a mental health issue.

The 3 A’s in Handling Feelings

    • First, be aware of what you’re feeling.

    • Second, accept what you’re feeling.

    • Third, articulate and verbalize how you’re feeling.

    • These steps are a way to handle your feelings with control and mindfulness.

How to Deal with Heightened Feelings

    • Always go back to being aware and accepting how you feel.

    • If you have a difficult decision to make, rehearse it or write it down before articulating them to other people.

    • Unexpressed feelings can do the most damage to a person.

    • It would help if you expressed hurt feelings to avoid feeling secretly furious.

    Being an RTT Therapist

    • Marisa has been a therapist for more than 30 years, and she loves what she does.

    • Her way of therapy focuses on simplifying things as quickly as possible.

    • She believes that the usual model of therapy is broken because of its lengthiness.

    • Listen to the full episode to hear about how unprocessed feelings affected her clients’ life physically, psychologically, and socially.

    Marisa’s Parting Words

    • Fall in love with yourself.

    • You are more than the numbers that you think define you, such as the size of your clothes, your bank account, and your age.

    • Have an active, young mind despite your age.

    • You can have a young mind and body by exercising both.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

“You can read all the books in the world and have a great intellect, but if you don’t understand yourself, it doesn’t mean anything.”

“If you can have really good communication skills with your partner, you’ll have a great marriage. But no one says, ‘You know what, if you can dialogue with yourself, if you can communicate with your mind and tell me what you want, you’ll have a great life.’”

“I think that’s real wisdom—looking at other people and not letting them get to you, and having compassion instead of feeling annoyed.”

“Most rage is nothing more than unexpressed hurt, and the trick is always to express the hurt as quickly as you can.”

“When you fall in love with yourself, you give the whole world permission to fall in love with you.”
