    Episode Highlights

    Meaghan in 2020

    • What Meaghan liked about the pandemic was it helped her become unafraid to fail. If she failed at something, she could just blame it on the situation.

    • She became Editor-in-Chief of Women’s Day a week before the lockdown, so she didn’t get to meet her new team.

    • On top of that, as her children became homeschooled, she needed to learn how to teach them.

    • She sees herself as an expert problem solver, so she filled her book with tips, tricks, and strategies you can use in your day-to-day life.

    • Meaghan trained herself to become fully-charged, so she knows anyone can do it.

What Meaghan Learned While Writing Her Book

    • She talks about meditation in her book and how it has undeniable power.

    • At first, she thought meditation wasn’t for her, but when she got COVID, she found herself downloading a meditation app, laying in bed, and doing it for an hour.

    • Awareness is key.

    • According to Meaghan, back in fifth grade, she said she was the embodiment of negativity.

    • In order to be happy, you have to do happy. Happiness is not a state of being; it is a state of doing.

How to Become Fully Charged and Where Energy Comes From

    • When you’re depleted, you feel stuck, drained, with low energy and negative thoughts.

    • On the other hand, being fully charged means building your energy reserves up so that when you feel down, you can power on through.

    • Making one positive choice after the other is like depositing goodness in the energy bank, and having reserves to become fully charged and get fired up.

    • It’s not about just looking at the bright side. It’s about looking at all sides and choosing the bright side in spite of everything else. You choose to move forward.

    Moving Past Hurdles in Life

    • When her father died and she had to deal with that grief, she simply set out to find one thing that did not suck everyday.

    • She called it operation. Since she could not lie in bed and hide under the covers, she had to get up and keep her children alive.

    • It taught her to prioritize positivity.

    • When you can seek out the good and put it front and center, you rewire your brain.

    • After doing this, she automatically sees the silver lining in things without working hard for it.

Embracing Integration and Connecting All the Parts of Your Life

    • What work-life balance suggests is that all aspects of your life are always equal.

    • For Meaghan, it’s all about synergy.

    • She made her children a part of her work by showing them her office and the things that she does in her job.

    • We need to recognize each other’s humanity in all situations.

    • It seems like what’s causing unhappiness in work is the belief that work life is supposed to be separate from our personal lives.

    Letting Go of Control

    • Letting go of control is usually scary and hard to do.

    • It’s one of those things where you won’t know how good it feels until you’ve had a taste.

    • When you have not become fully charged, or are not living a life filled with optimism and joy, it is easy to roll your eyes at the notion of it.

    • You don’t need to have drastic changes in your life. You just have to use what you have right now to change your perspective, so you can restructure what you see in your life.

    Managing Everybody’s Energy

    • Meaghan likes to lead with joy and fun. She’s the first on her team to say that they get to make magazines for a living—they are not curing cancer.

    • She says if people can’t have fun while working, then they shouldn’t be working.

    • When we were kids, we used to get stars and trophies for doing well. For people working now, where do they get validation?

    • To achieve wellness, we need to feel accomplished in something.

    • The bottomline is that you can never control what somebody is going to do. You can’t control their stress or their response to a situation—all you can do is protect yourself and emit positive energy.

5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode

[12:30] “And that's what your fully-charged life is. It's a happiness toolkit. It's not even a happiness handbook. It's a happiness toolkit. And it's filled with these tricks and tips and strategies that allow you to weather any storm with optimism and grace.”

[23:15] “But living fully charged means, okay, well, how do you build the energy reserves so that when you feel that crappy, you can power back up? Right? Because if you make a series of positive choices, it's like you're depositing goodness in the energy bank.”

[26:06] “And when you're able to do that, when you're able to seek out the good and put it front and center, you rewire your brain.”

[30:35] “I mean, the lines are blurring. Everything is changing. I mean, it's a new work world. That's absolutely for sure. And, I also think there are moments when it's important to, you know, kind of compartmentalize.”

[35:37] “And I am the first person to say to my team on repeat, we get to make magazines for a living. We're not curing cancer. Like if we can't have fun doing this we shouldn't be working.”
