Episode Highlights

[02:21] The Meaning of Success

  • George borrows his definition of success from Earl Nightingale’s book, The Strangest Secret. The definition there is: Become what we think about.

  • Each day moving toward a personal goal makes you successful. The success George talks about is internal, which then reflects in the external.

  • George finds success in expressing himself, where he can share what he has with others. It's for the highest good, not for his ego but for everyone.

  • Sports success helps someone express their internal greatness.

[07:22] Nervousness

  • Nervousness is an expression of your desire to experience something or achieve a personal goal.

  • Even great players get nervous. Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics used to get extremely anxious before a game.

  • Nervousness can be excitation.

  • Courage is love. Nervousness shows that you want something and have the vulnerability to express that desire.

[08:49] “Here’s the challenge. When we get close to possibility or freedom or potentiality, one side of that coin is potential freedom. The other side is uncertainty. It’s the anxiety.” - Click Here To Tweet This

[12:48] Greatness is Automatic

  • We have to embrace our greatness and make it a habit. Greatness is a way of being.

  • The challenge is to act out your desire and turn your intentions into an activity that pushes you toward a personal goal.

  • George tells us to remind ourselves every day that we are masterpieces and have greatness within us. It also helps to recognize that in others.

  • A large part of greatness is practicing self-regulation and self-understanding.

  • Self-love is self-responsibility and responding to our own needs. A community can help people address needs we might not know we have.

[21:34] The Power of Hitting Rock Bottom

  • George has something he calls the “Ass on Fire” — a sense of urgency or commitment that pushes you to express your abilities.

  • Being comfortable and finding a groove stops people from learning.

  • Unlocking our greatness comes with being comfortable with being uncomfortable.

[23:15] “If you’re not struggling, if you’re not getting out of your comfort zone, you’re not learning.” - Click Here To Tweet This

[27:52] Faking It Until You Make It

  • What you tell yourself matters. Telling yourself that your success is fake means you don’t believe in yourself or that you achieved your personal goal.

  • Instead, George suggests the phrase "act as if, "not "fake it 'til you make it."

  • Say yes to whatever comes up and look for the lesson in everything.

[29:17] “This is about getting to the goal in the right way.” - Click Here To Tweet This

[31:23] Going Back to Basics

  • It can help to go back to fundamentals when you feel stuck.

  • Returning to fundamental principles helps us learn from mistakes and see the bigger picture.

  • It’s also good to see things as they are right now, in the moment.

  • Success is 99% failure. We have to go from each failure to the next without losing enthusiasm.

[38:39] True North

  • It's vital to face reality as it is and accept it.

  • People today need the ability to regulate what they let in. We have access to so much data, and everything's moving at an accelerated rate.

  • Not everything is instant; success requires work and time.

  • Focus on what you can control. Find a personal goal — a true north — that guides all your choices.

[46:13] George and Being Radically Loved

  • George loves being in love.

  • He loves the idea that he can help people help themselves and release their divine spark.

  • He also loves learning — he reads one book every week on average.
