Episode Highlights
[00:05] Rosie and Jill’s Connection
Jill was Rosie’s inspiration for becoming a yoga teacher.
Seeing Jill read a poem in her class gave Rosie permission to read something written instead of memorizing everything when teaching.
[02:33] Jill 10 Years Ago and Jill Today
Jill has become a different person, but core staples like yoga remained in her life.
She’s seven months pregnant with her second child and is married to her second husband. She’s more stable now, with a lot more commitments.
10 years ago, Jill was coming out of her first marriage, dealing with trauma and healing.
Her life is now more grounded, scheduled, and committed.
[08:05] Becoming More Grounded as a Mom
Becoming better when she became a mom came naturally to Jill.
One reason she launched Spirit Daughter was to keep traveling together with her first husband.
Having a child immediately grounded her and her first husband. They’re all Leos.
Leos are a fixed sign. They typically like routine.
They locked into a consistent routine schedule. Tune in to the full episode to hear more about this!
[11:22] Navigating Business and Parenting while Maintaining Her Practice
It’s critical to understand that you can’t do everything you want to do in a day.
It’s a juggling act that comes down to priorities.
[12:11] Jill: "Many things come up in businesses that you could talk about that you don't need to talk about? So it's really being clear about the priorities day-to-day." — Click Here to Tweet This
She finds it crucial to connect with her team meaningfully.
Jill maintains her practice by getting up at 5:30 am every day.
[13:27] Biggest Lessons from the Pandemic
Jill learned about the things that steal her energy, no matter how much she meditates.
She monitored her energy to see what was affecting it. A critical aspect of it was not reading the news.
She put up boundaries and started connecting with herself more deeply.
Hanging out with and seeing friends impacted Jill significantly during this period.
[12:59] Jill: “It’s just creating these priorities, realizing that I can't do everything that I want to do in a day. There [are] always things that are going to be on my to-do list that I just can't do, and some of it just has to do with time. — Click Here to Tweet This
[16:25] The Need for Connection During the Pandemic
She recognized the need to balance her physical and mental health.
Her first child was seven months old when the quarantine happened.
Having fellow moms to rely on is crucial for first-time moms.
Human connection is critical for your overall health.
[17:23] Jill: “Just realizing the importance of connection and having those people to bond with, not just over Zoom but in person, sitting on the lawn and just connecting—it's so important for your health.” —Click Here to Tweet This
[18:37] For When You Feel Stuck
Vipassana is the meditation of her choice for whenever she feels stuck. She has recordings of meditations from Goenka, the founder of the practice.
Jill also goes back to other guided meditations and teachings that bring her back to her roots.
[20:00] Jill: “There are some of those meditation sessions where you just drop in and you’re in the abyss. You are one with everything, and time stands still or moves fast. Who knows — you’re one with time.” —Click Here to Tweet This
There’s no judgment in how you meditate. For Jill, she finds her greatest insights in sessions where she drops in and goes into the abyss.
It can take an entire hour to get into that one moment of pure meditative bliss.
[21:08] Excitement for the Future
She’s most excited about having her second baby.
You have to go through the actual birth journey to know what it’s really about.
[20:28] Jill: “Sometimes, I feel like you have to meditate for an hour just to get that one moment of pure meditative bliss. But, getting to that point, it’s just like, ‘Ah, okay. Everything is figured out now.’” —Click Here to Tweet This
