How To Connect With Your True Self With Kimberly Snyder
They say thoughts create our reality. But because of ego, our mind can sometimes be unreliable and untrustworthy. It produces a superficial fear that disconnects us from the voice of our intuition. That said, the only way to tune into your purpose is to look inwards and reconnect with your true self. All this takes is pausing, embracing stillness, and returning to your center. This energy shift then manifests itself into different aspects of our lives.
In this episode, 3-time New York Times bestselling author Kimberly Snyder joins us to talk about her new book. Kimberly candidly shares the life experiences that led her to write books and the yogic path. She discusses teachings and practices that will allow us to tune into our purpose and connect with our true self. Finally, Kimberly expands on how ego manifests and differentiates between surface versus true confidence.

Episode Highlights
The Catalyst for Kimberly’s Story
Kimberly shared her struggle in finding out what she wanted to do after college in the first chapter of her book.
She ended up backpacking as a way to seek relief from her anxiety. She stayed in Africa for seven months and Asia for 18 months with little money.
Kimberly grew up as a mixed-race in an almost 100% Caucasian town. She never felt like she fit in.
India was the place that had the most impact on her. It is where she learned about yoga and meditation for the first time.
The yogic science teaches about energy concentration and withdrawal and connecting to the true self.
Stepping into the Flow
She learned and started practicing the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.
Kimberly came back to the US three years later broke and still lost. She sublet a place and returned to teaching Yoga Asana and nutrition school.
The Teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda helped her create something out of nothing.
She started stepping into the flow upon creating her free WordPress blog. It spread out to New York City shortly after telling her yoga students about it.
Kimberly eventually set out to work with celebrities and appeared on Good Morning America and Dr. Oz regularly.
Getting into Writing Books
Her first book deal with HarperCollins was The Beauty Detox Solution, which sold a million copies.
The second book she wrote was a complete book, followed by the third book about chakra called “The Beauty Detox Power”.
She co-wrote her third book “Radical Beauty” with Deepak Chopra. It was about Ayurveda and spirituality.
The fifth book, "The Beauty Detox Power" was about the mind and body.
"You Are More Than You Think You Are" is Kimberly’s full playbook. She signed the book deal three days after giving birth to her second son.
Tuning into Our Purpose
You Are More Than You Think You Are is a guidebook. It teaches about practices, techniques, and teachings for creating in life.
Connecting with the true self is the first step to finding our purpose.
Thoughts can both be supportive and unsupportive. It goes back to our ego and how we think of ourselves.
Wayne Dyer: 2% of who we are is the outer shell of looking and doing. The true self is our formless, stable, courageous, and infinitely creative part.
The true self is the voice of our intuition, heart, and guts. Meanwhile, the ego is often fear-based and keeps us small and limited.
How to Connect With Our True Self
We can connect with our true selves through stillness and coming back to our center.
The solution is not at the same place as the problem. What is needed is to balance our time in outer doing and conduct practices of inner connection.
Kimberly's Practical Enlightenment Meditation is only around 7 to 8 minutes. It allows you to turn inward, withdraw your senses, and connect in.
It is a great idea to do journaling after a meditation session.
Strengthening our dynamic allows us to gain greater flow and energy and get powerful at manifesting.
Discerning Between Ego and Intuition
Ego is about pushing; living from intuition is like a river that is flowing.
The ego is a trickster that creates fear and makes our thoughts unreliable. The one clear channel we can rely on is the body's wisdom.
The true self is speaking when our body feels expansive; tightness and constriction mean we are aligning with the ego.
It is critical to pause, make a shift, and recognize the feeling in our body when we are identifying with our ego. It is experiential.
Applying the Practices from the Book
The actual application of the practices from the book is critical to experiencing an energy shift in your life.
Kimberly's rock bottom period happened when she lost her mom to cancer and became a single mom shortly after.
A monk from the Self-Realization Fellowship advised her to treat her home like an ashram for five months. She went deep into practicing teachings from ancient texts.
Kimberly rose out of grief five months after. She developed a deep sense of trust and wholeness.

Dealing with Unsupportive People
Setting boundaries is not about keeping out what we do not want. Energy is about keeping what we want.
State your boundaries from a place of clarity while keeping the love and firmness in your voice. That way, the other person will know it’s a non-negotiable.
Knowing the true self means knowing that you do not have to defend or explain yourself.
People respond differently when you practice the power of autonomy. It also comes from a deep place of deserving.
Where Real Confidence Stems from
The root of all confident issues goes back to identifying with the ego.
Surface confidence is different from real confidence. Real confidence comes down to the statement: “I am what I am.”
It’s about being confident for being alive and being a unique creation of spirit. Nothing can take this core part away from us.
Our self-worth should come from this inner place. It creates a deep sense of naturalness and easefulness that draws people and harmony in.
How Kimberly Feels Radically Loved
We all have different ideas of love that we form as children.
Feeling radically loved is a heart-bursting, open, and unconditional love that comes from the practice of tuning in.
It’s the radical understanding that we need to do nothing for love; we just need to be who we are.
It’s a beautiful gift to find love just by being in the fullness of the moment.
The world would become brighter and more connected if everyone had access to their inner peace.
5 Powerful Quotes
[09:59] “It's all around the central theme though, which is really connecting with the true self. So I think when people are searching for purpose, or they're trying to create what they want in their life, we need to talk about this.”
[11:31] "The thoughts that come from out here, the ego, are often fear-based, Rosie. They keep us small and limited. They tell us, it's trying to keep us safe, in a sense, the ego is, but a lot of it is based on limitation."
[16:34] "The ego is like a trickster. So it starts to put these fears in our minds. And then we start to say, oh, yeah, you know, I want to be meditating. But actually, I need to do like five more things on my to-do list or I could squeeze in these three emails, or whatever it is."
[26:11] “Remember that boundaries aren't about keeping out what we don't want…boundaries are to keep in what I want.”
[29:09] “The root issue of all these confidence issues goes back to, ‘Am I identifying with the ego, or am I identifying with the true self?’”
