I’ve always said, I can’t be an advocate for change if I’m not willing to change. As a yogi and a coach, I have found that being faced with major change in life is when I need to bring my practice off the mat and into the world so it can help me propel forward. The practice can then support me as I work through the fear and confusion that change can bring. I have become quite a veteran of these radical life-changing scenarios, but it doesn’t make it any easier. I remember when I first left Los Angeles to move to Portland over three years ago, it took a moment or (a year) for me to get into the idea of living some place new. Do you remember when you first started your current job? Or when you made the choice to change your career? Do you remember it being like when you FIRST start dating! Every time you saw your mate or got the random “hey how are you?” text it was all so romantic and exciting? Your beloved could do no wrong.
But then, something happens… this job or career doesn’t really ‘feel’ the same, and after some time you start to wake up every morning wondering… “Really?.. This is it huh?”… or am I the only one who ever experienced that?…Here’s the deal, what I found in my time in captivity in the entertainment industry is that you don’t HAVE to quit. I’ve been here for a few days training with my teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker, it’s my first time in Colorado and I think I’m in love. It’s pretty incredible how healing it is to be surrounded by nature’s beauty. I find that being in a space where I can feel the expansion of the landscape, allows me to find expansion and space within myself.
I love going on epic walks! every morning I’ve been able to make the 4 mile trek to the retreat center we are studying. The incredibly fresh air makes each walk feel like I’m exploring a whole new world. There is a great sense of expansion, which I only ever experience when I’m practicing Yoga or meditating. Read more
Happy Spring! You know what that means? Summer is right around the corner… soon enough we will swap our rain boots for sun lounger chairs and epic walks in nature. Since getting back from my trip, and being in the sun for weeks on end it has taken a little time to get back into the swing of things. Not sure Portland got the memo that we were ready for some Vitamin D. I’ve had a little bout of the post holiday blues that can make getting back into work mode tough and concentration has been a bit of a struggle after a harsh snap back to reality. Read more
